I’m super stoked. I listened to the International Space Station (ISS) pass yesterday with my kids. Lots of beeping and screeching, but it was coming from a radio on the ISS, that we were hearing in Margate, so it was exciting none the less. So this morning I thought I’d best install some decoding software (MMSSTV) to see if we could receive the images they were transmitting, which I did, and wouldn’t you know it, the ISS was due for a long pass (eight minutes) almost directly overhead as soon as I’d finished.
I called the kids who watched the pass with me, and got some images decoded. Even my wife came into the office to see what all the excitement was about, and I think she was impressed. At least she pretended to be for my sake 🙂
Below are the two images we decoded. Now to tune the software to remove the slant. Something to do with reference clocks for timing synchronisation. Will have to try to find a local ham to calibrate with. Oh, the antenna was my home made flowerpot dual band 2m/70cm unit. So whilst not ideal, it did the job!
